Indus Appstore: The Rising Challenger to Google Play and Apple App Store
Indus Appstore: Fintech company PhonePe subsidiary of Walmart (Flipkart) has now launched India’s very own Appstore called ‘Indus’. It is an independently developed Android software marketplace, that aims to offer a regional alternative to the Google Play Store.
At present Indus app marketplace for Android developers boasts a collection of more than 200,000 mobile apps along with games in almost 45 categories which caters to various interests.
The major focus of this app store is linguistic diversity as it supports 12 Indian languages along with English, it accommodates the linguistic preferences of 90% of users in India. However, the app is committed not only to language support but also gives an excellent user experience with features such as a video-based app discovery.
This Indus Appstore offers flexibility for game and app creators such as allowing any third-party payment gateway for doing in-app purchases that too without any commission fees, facilitating a more comprehensive and unbiased app market that empowers developers.
To increase developer’s participation, the app store provides diverse benefits, which include free listings for the first year, zero commission on in-app purchases, and professional support services which are ready-made for developers’ needs in India.
With developer-friendly conditions, the Appstore will not only compete with the Google Play Store, but it also emphasize on round-the-clock and regional language support. After its launch, this Indus Appstore has been equipped with 200,000 apps and the most prominent ones are e-commerce giants like flipkart, a music app like Spotify, and fintech app such as Paytm, they are actively recruiting developers and have been regularly collaborating with third-party aggregators. There are several normalized features given such as phone number-based sign-ins which enhances the user experience.
Google playstore and Apple store have been dominating this section from years but with these efforts by app developers it might become the global thing with their low commission fees. Because of the large Smartphone user base in India, with diverse app marketplaces like Indus Appstore will offer fair competition and better consumer choice.
