  • Eat three servings of different colored fruits every day – Eating a minimum of three fruits. It gives you essential fiber, minerals, and micro nutrition essential for your daily body needs. Micronutrition helps with sugar cravings as well.
    • Eat Seasonal and Local fruits
    • Pick different fruits for the week and make a group of three to have each day
    • No excuses please, carry whole fruits with you in a box for snacking. You can carry a peeler as well, no one is stopping you
    • Make them part of your salads. I like to add pomegranates, melons, apples and mango to my salad bowl along with sprouts and veggies. Try it and thank me later
    • Make a routine for eating fruits. Have it as a mid-day and mid-evening snack or have it as a sweet after your meal
  • Eat 5 Seasonal Vegetables – Same as fruits it is essential to include 5 different vegetables in a day. It is not that difficult. For each meal include salad and vegetable dish. In a stir fry, you can include 5 vegetables easily and the same is the case for soup. Add vegetables to your lentils and breads. Relish a beetroot, spinach, fenugreek, or gourd chapati. Believe me, it tastes amazing with the right spices and curd.

  • Blood test for mineral deficiency – After 18 years of age get routine blood tests to monitor your hormones and minerals. Please do not get scared of a simple blood test. Blood tests should include Mineral tests – Calcium and Magnesium, B12, Iron, and Vitamin D. You can also include hormone tests for Progesterone and estrogen.
  • Reduce grains portion – Due to the nature of modern work women need not do as much physical labour as was required in earlier centuries. Hence, it is recommended to slowly reduce grain consumption based on physical activity. Also, try to replace grains like wheat and rice with millets such as Ragi, Foxtail millet, and Bajra.

  • Active Lifestyle – An active lifestyle is key to maintaining good health. Walking is the simplest exercise which all age groups can do. Try not to pick up your vehicle for a smaller distance, walk and get the work done. Household chores that we have delegated in developing countries are low-risk activities that we all can do. Pick one chore if you have restricted time but start off.
